Research, Progress, Connection: Project meeting of the LPI basic technologies

Around 100 researchers of our partner institutions joined at the Dornburg Castles to report about their project progress and give perspectives for their timely application in clinical settings.

On November 3, 2025, around 100 scientists from the LPI project partners Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (Leibniz IPHT), Jena University Hospital (UKJ), Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute (Leibniz HKI), and Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU) came together at the Dornburg Castles. The 8th edition of these regular project meetings of the LPI basic technologies served for the presentation of current progress, discussions, and joint exchange of ideas.

Within the topic of the day on “Research Data Management”, conversations revolved around methods of data infrastructures, access to analysis pipelines, and connection of digital ressources and data. Each of the four partner institutions and the LPI itself showed their advancing implementations.

Presentations of the projects – funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space – included, e.g.:

  • Raman spectroscopy-based characterization of immune cells from blood samples
  • Computational models for optimized image data analysis
  • Analytical methods for quantification of therapeutic microbial agents
  • Development and evaluation of biological reference materials

The progress of the projects clearly showed that the basic technologies unfold their potential for the translation of research to clinical application and are on track to be available within the LPI infrastructure. Together, strengths can be brought together by cross-site collaboration and exchange between the institutions, and the Readiness Level of the technologies increased.

Special thanks go to all partner institutions for their contributions and collective exchange, and especially to the coordinators of the institutions for their excellent organization. We look forward to the next meeting in May 2026.
