A delegation from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) visited the InfectoGnostics Research Campus Jena and the LPI on Thursday. At the Centre for Applied Research (ZAF) in Jena, Dr. Tina Klüwer, head of department at the BMBF, and her colleagues from the BMBF exchanged views with representatives of the TMWWDG, the LPI management and representatives of the basic technology projects. The visit focused on innovative methods for the diagnosis and treatment of infections, which were presented as part of the planned new LPI translation platform.

In the afternoon, the BMBF delegation visited the University Hospital of Jena (UKJ), where Dr Klüwer was informed in detail about various aspects of the development work and construction projects at the LPI. She was able to gain an impression of the organisational structure of the LPI gGmbH, the current status of routine diagnostics at the UKJ, selected basic technologies and the plans for the implementation of the first in-patient unit and the new LPI laboratory building.

The day before, the regular “jour fixe” between the BMBF staff and the LPI managers took place at the Leibniz IPHT to discuss current challenges and progress in the project.

The visit gave the BMBF representatives a valuable insight into the progress and future plans of the Leibniz Centre for Photonics in Infection Research.
