Fighting Infections with Light:
Translating Cutting-edge Photonic Technologies into Clinical Practice

Innovation of infection research: Fast diagnostics and novel therapies

The Leibniz Center for Photonics in Infection Research (LPI) is a user-open one-stop agency.

Its unique infrastructure will accelerate and support the development of light-based diagnostic methods and novel therapeutic approaches for the treatment of infectious diseases. All development steps from concept to certified medical device are included in a holistic process. Professional quality management, early consideration of regulatory requirements and clinical evidence ensure sustained application.

Within a consolidated infrastructure, the LPI combines expertises from science, medicine and industry – to fight infections together.

Infectious diseases are among the most common causes of death worldwide. Antimicrobial resistances of pathogens complicate effective treatment with classic approaches. The LPI targets the immense need for personalized therapeutic approaches and rapid diagnostic procedures.

Optical technologies provide additional diagnostic information, high precision and personalization. This allows for fast diagnoses for time-sensitive infections.

Artificial Intelligence helps with data evaluation and enables reliable diagnostics. Complex photonic data can be interpreted fast and automatically to derive diagnostic decisions.

A globally unique translation infrastructure for the development of medical solutions: LPI bridges the gap from research concept to the clinical practice and thus combines technology development and real life application.

Translating Photonics. Transforming Medicine.
