How can photonic technologies be rapidly and successfully brought into clinical application? The LPI addressed this question in its program contributions at the W3+ Fair Jena. On September 23, two presentations provided insights into the LPI as an infrastructure and its technologies. The W3+ Fair Jena is an annual fair held at the Sparkassen-Arena in Jena that brings together regional companies and experts in photonics, optics, and electronics.
At this year’s W3+ Fair Jena, the LPI was able to actively participate in the program with its own talk contributions. Every year, the high-tech trade fair for photonics, optics, and electronics provides a platform for the latest technologies, trends, as well as networking among industry, research, and technology companies.

On the first day of the trade fair, the InfectoGnostics Research Campus Jena hosted the panel session “Successfully bringing innovative medical technologies into application,” moderated by Dr. Jens Hellwage. To kick off the session, Dr. Christine Schulz presented the LPI as an upcoming translation infrastructure dedicated to accelerating clinical development and validation. With a numerous audience attending, she presented the LPI as a partner for technology development, validation, and translation, and demonstrated what will be possible at our infrastructure in the near future. Prof. Dr. Jürgen Popp (Leibniz IPHT) then provided further insight into the path of biophotonic technologies from promising laboratory prototypes to clinically applicable solutions. Several advanced technologies will soon be available at the LPI for initial pilot projects. In addition to the Leibniz IPHT, these LPI technologies are also being developed at Jena University Hospital, the Leibniz HKI, and Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
Many thanks to the W3+ Fair for giving us the opportunity to play an active role in the program. We are delighted about the platform and, above all, the discussions that followed on-site!
